Dr. Giacomini is a pioneer in pharmacogenomics and co-principal investigator of the UCSF-Stanford Center of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation, which promotes regulatory science in partnership with foundations and businesses interested in developing FDA-approved medical products. Throughout her career, she has actively mentored pharmacy and graduate students and has championed women and underrepresented groups in science. Dr. Giacomini’s research on genetic variation in how people metabolize and transport drugs has played an influential role in the field of pharmacology. She earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Houston and a doctoral degree in pharmaceutical sciences from State University of New York at Buffalo and did her postdoctoral work in pharmacology and clinical pharmacology at Stanford University.
