For the last 20 years, Dr. Collard — who is also a professor of medicine and health policy in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy, and Sleep Medicine — has worked to improve the lives of people with pulmonary fibrosis. As UCSF’s top scientific leader, he stewards the institutional research mission, managing the organization’s research administration, building partnerships with industry and foundations, and advocating for researchers and research priorities with federal agencies and Congress. Dr. Collard earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemical sciences and molecular biology from Harvard College and his medical degree from Duke University. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at UCSF and earned a master’s degree in health law and policy from UC Law San Francisco.
